Letters to My Daughter, New York October 2013
25 October 2013I worry. As your mom, it is my job. I worry for so many things that sometimes I think I am going cuckoo.
I worry about which school you are going to attend to after this one.
I worry if you'd be able to speak up to defend your idea or to protect yourself.
I worry if your soft, kind heart will lead people to using you.
I worry if you'd live your dream and be happy.
...and on, and on, and on...
But I listen to your stories. Stories about atmosphere that you are most comfortable at. Stories when have to make your own decisions. Stories about your passion and excitement. Stories when you decided you would be a mediator or when you needed to leave the space. And I know you are going to be just fine.
You will definitely learn different things in this growing up process. You will learn to deal and cope with different settings and feeling.
When I see you, I am reminded of the metamorphosis process of a caterpillar into a butterfly. When it is time for the caterpillar to become an adult, they find a sheltered, safe spot in which to transform into an adult.
I want you to know, that when that time comes, we will there to be your safe spot. To answer your questions. To hold your hands. To offer our shoulders if you need to cry. To lend you our ears. To help you see the light when things get dark.
We are your safe spot. We will always be. And you will be a fine, beautiful butterfly.
Oceans of love,
Bun-bun

(Because she came up with this whole idea of documenting the metamorphosis and chose the prop, so she wanted a credit. Ha!)
This month, I am linking to a lovely mom and talented photographer who is behind this amazing idea of writing a letter to our daughters, Amy Lucy of Amy Lucy Photography.
Oh my gosh, these pictures and her creative input are just amazing and so full of love - and so perfect for this letter - so much worry goes hand in hand with motherhood, and yet it is plain to see you are leading her down the right paths and she is growing into a beautiful young lady with a beautiful heart - you should be so proud x
Debbie, you’re one of the most beautiful and soulful storytellers - your words and images blow me away and the love that you have for your sweet girl is tangible. I’m so very glad to have had the opportunity to get to know you <3
