"What to do in Ubud?" I asked

Here's what we ended up doing on the 2nd day of our stay in Ubud.

  • We climbed down and up the steep stairs made out of natural rocks.
  • Crossed a river. The river stream grabbed Jo's left flip-flop. Nyoman, our tour guide seems to have developed the skill to quickly grabbed it. (My prediction is that there's always someone who almost lost a shoe or a flip-flop on this walking tour. Ha!)
  • Walked in the middle of paddy field. Hot but enjoyed every minute of it.
  • We walked passed a local village and stopped by at Nyoman's house where we met children gathering to do their homework.
  • Nyoman asked if we would like to see a very, very old tree. We said, "Of course!" I stood under the tree, feeling like I was just nothing compared to the nature and feeling so small. I looked up and saw the sun peeking through the thick leaves. It was magnificent and of course I had to take a pic.
  • We saw roosters kept in individual bamboo cages for cock fight. Totally not a fan of this.
  • We visited a coffee luwak plantation. Call me ignorant but I just learned on that day how luwak or civet coffee is actually made. I guess that's why it's so expensive! I tried their hand roll cigarette, and Jo put on her long face and made me promise that I was just going to try and not going to buy. :)
I took off my flip flop on our trip back to the hotel. Walking bare foot, I stepped on wet grasses, mud, moss and felt marvelous. We came back to the hotel 3 hours later, sweating, exhausted, thirsty. But we really had fun.
